Dr. Jacqueline Crawley Endowed lecture Series. Spring of 2023 brought a return of the Dr. Jacqueline Crawley, Ph.D. Endowed Lecture series.  Dr. Crawley, a former Penn student (class of 1971) and now emeritus professor of Neuroscience at UC Davis, established this endowed lecture series, allowing us to host a distinguished, female, neuroscience alumna on campus to enjoy lunch with our students and present their research to the broader community. This year’s seminar was held on March 13th, 2023 and was given by Yasmine El-Shamalyleh, PhD., currently at Columbia University. Dr. El-Shamalyleh’s presentation was titled ‘How the brain represents the shape of visual objects’.

Kids Judge! 2023. Also returning in spring of 2023 was the beloved Kids Judge! event which brings approximately 70 excited grade 3 and 4 students from Hamilton Elementary public school to our campus. In a twist on a more traditional science competition, these young students judge the neuroscience exhibits designed by students in Penn’s undergraduate and graduate neuroscience programs. Planning for this popular Neuroscience Outreach program is already underway for Spring of 2024. Interested undergraduates or graduate students can email kellymek@sas.upenn.edu for information on volunteer opportunities.
